Certified Toyota Frequently Asked Questions

Certified Toyota Frequently asked questions

Our team is often asked about the differences between buying new, buying used, and buying certified pre-owned Toyota models. That is why we have compiled a comprehensive list of questions that customers in the Chicagoland area have asked over the years with detailed answers.

Drivers from in and around the Chicagoland area already well versed in CPO Toyota models should browse through our current inventory to learn more about available vehicles and pricing.

Can all Toyotas be Certified?

No. Not all pre-owned Toyota cars, trucks and SUVs can earn certification. Only Toyota vehicles six model years or newer with less than 85,000 miles on the odometer can qualify to earn certification.

How are the vehicles tested?

Gas engine Toyota models are given a 160-point inspection, and hybrid models receive a 174-point inspection. The Toyota inspection process included mechanical, detailing, and appearance standards. If a factory-certified technician deems a part faulty or in need of repair, it’s replaced with a brand-new part and the vehicle is re-examined.

What are the benefits of CPO?

Toyota CPO vehicles provide drivers in and around the Chicagoland area with a like-new model, at a used car price. Every Certified Pre-owned Toyota model also comes with a complete vehicle history report and an extended warranty to give customers additional peace of mind.

What is a Vehicle History Report?

A vehicle history report delivers comprehensive information about the life of your CPO Toyota. The report begins when the car, truck, or SUV was first delivered from the factory and details every service performed or key aspect of its life until it was certified at Toyota of River Oaks. The reports come free of charge and are backed by a buyback guarantee from CARFAXⓇ that further reduces the risk of buying a CPO vehicle.

Is Roadside Assistance included?

YES. 24-hour roadside assistance is complimentary for the first year of ownership for any certified Toyota purchased in the Chicagoland area.

What is covered under the warranty?

Every CPO car, truck, or SUV from Toyota comes backed by the original 7-Year/100,000-mile warranty included with every new model, but CPO models take the warranty a step further with a 12-month/12,000-mile Limited Comprehensive Warranty. The differences between the two warranties are as follows:

7-Year / 100,000-mile Limited Powertrain Warranty covers:

  • Coverage begins when the model was first sold as new
  • Covers major engine, transmission, and internally lubricated parts
  • Comes with Travel Protection that includes lodging and meal reimbursement when stranded more than 150 miles from home
  • Offers Substitute Transportation reimbursement while your CPO Toyota vehicle is being repaired
  • Transferable at no cost

12-month / 12,000 mile Limited Comprehensive Warranty covers:

  • Begins when you purchase your Toyota CPO car, truck, or SUV
  • Delivers the highest level of coverage possible
  • Covers any repaired or replaced components that fail under normal use due to a defect in materials or work
  • Transferable at no cost

Can you lease or finance CPO cars, trucks, and SUVs?

Certified pre-owned Toyota models can only be financed. Lease deals are only available on new models, but the team at our Chicagoland Toyota dealership is more than capable of answering any questions you might have on leasing a new vehicle.
