Designed to provide you with real-time traffic and emergency information, TC Smartphone Navigation was made specifically to help Toyota drivers avoid congestion. Expanding on T-Connect, Toyota’s current navigation app, TC Smartphone Navigation collects traffic data using on-board data communication modules (DCM) to help steer you away from traffic jams. Thanks to the route history map, powered by “big data” and aerial disaster photograph technology, drivers will also be able to avoid traffic caused by emergencies.
With more updates said to be available in the coming months, there’s no telling what’s in store for the future of Toyota’s TC Smartphone Navigation, but we’re sure the pleasant surprises will keep coming.

2017 Toyota RAV4 Recognized for Child Safety Seats
The 2017 Toyota RAV4 is a sound investment for families with children. The leading cause of injury for kids in car collisions is installing child seats improperly. Toyota has been continuously working to make proper child seat installing a seamless process, and their efforts are paying off. Toyota was recognized twice in September for their superior seat mounts, first by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and then Cars.com.
Seat mounts aren’t always easy to use, which is why the IIHS recognized Toyota for its Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system. It’s also best for kids to face the seat when riding in a vehicle, which becomes a problem as children grow. Out of the 84 vehicles tested by Cars.com, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 was one of six to make their Car Seat Honor Roll because the 2017 Toyota RAV4 combats this issue with its large rear seats. Certified child safety technicians performed the tests with three different kinds of seats, and the new RAV4 got a 100 percent in each category.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into making installation of child safety seats easier, and we’re glad it’s working,” explained Jennifer Pelky, senior safety engineer at Toyota’s North American R&D Headquarters.

Back in 2014, Toyota Motor Corp. stunned the world with its futuristic CH-R, or Coupe High-Rider concept. The edges and contours make it look more spaceship than CUV. Many professionals within the automotive industry have made assurances that this was just a concept car and that it would never hit production. However, Toyota remains determined to set the record straight, having just revealed the interior of the CH-R in June 2016.
Black leather and a blue swatch run across the length of the dash. The upholstery mimics the dash design and everything looks like it’s time traveled decades from the future that grace your eyes wherever you look at it. Toyota has also assured us that the blue accents from the concept will also be offered in dark grey, and brown color scheme options with the possibility of others to follow before the vehicle hits dealerships in the near future. The head unit of the CH-R sits at the very top center of the dash with a slight angle towards the driver for a more commanding view, and features Toyota’s latest multi-media ’16 navigation platform complete with various apps and enhanced connectivity.

FACT: A staggering three out of four car seats are incorrectly installed.
Toyota of River Oaks is here to help make sure your summers are about what they ought to be – Barbecues, fireworks, s’mores, theme parks, swimming, and road trips. Keep your children safe as you travel to your next fun-filled destination this summer with a few quick and easy safety tips.
- Inch and Pinch Tests. For the “inch test” grab the car seat from the back and bottom and tug from side to side and front to back. If the seat moves more than an inch in any direction, tighten or refasten until fully secure. For the “pinch test” simply pinch your car seat’s strap near the child’s shoulder, if you can pinch the wrinkle in the fabric the strap needs to be tightened until snug.
- NEVER add extra layers between your child and the seat. Car seats get hot in the summer weather, and piling on added bulky fabrics and materials won’t make things easier on your child. It’s vastly better to have a properly vented seat that can breathe in the heat than trying to work around a poorly designed one. Added bulk can often interfere with restraints and cause a malfunction of the seat in the event of a crash.
- NEVER rent a car seat. Renting a car seat means you have no history with it and don’t know if it’s ever failed or been seriously damaged before it made its way to you. This poses a serious threat to its abilities to protect your child as that weight of uncertainty will always be looming. Purchase a good seat new from a reputable manufacturer so you can spend more time having fun and less time worrying.
Following these 3 simple tips, you’re now better equipped to enjoy your summer and all the fun-filled family activities that come with it. Toyota of River Oaks proudly offers the best cars, the best deals, every time, on your time.
